Papa Earl . . .

It has been a sad week . . .

My dear, sweet boss/mentor/friend/"father" passed away on Monday. There are those special people that make such an impression on your life. Earl was such a person. He was the glue that held us together. After 40+ years with the company, many people have commented how Earl "raised" them. I couldn't agree more.

What a void it has left in our company & in our lives.
In memory to this dear man . . .

Earl-isms
1. “Change happens, Go with it!”
2. “Let’s stop and think about that . . .”
3. “Let’s keep to the positive side of things . . .”
4. “In 40+ years, H&P has NEVER missed a payroll!”
5. In talking about Cyborg – Earl would draw a picture with his hands - “File01” (left hand circle) & “File02” (right had circle)
6. “I’m pretty proud that in my old age, I never lost my hair!”

Pappa Earl
Earl always had a chocolate stash! But, Earl always remembered I don’t particularly like chocolate. So, he would always have a special non-chocolate candy stash for me!

Earl taught me so many things. I loved him dearly. He was always there when I needed a kind word, shoulder to lean on or ear to hear me. I always felt so privileged when he slipped and called me by his daughter’s name, “Angie” (we are about the same age). He was like a father to me. He was & always will be “Papa Earl”!

I remember when I shared with Earl that I was adopting a baby from Russia. His eyes lit up & he wanted to know all about it. We sat at his desk & looked up the region on the internet. He always thought that it was so wonderful & was truly interested, asking me all kinds of questions about International Adoption! When Nicholas & I came home, Nicholas was smitten with Earl & Earl was smitten with Nicky. Nicky called him “Papa Earl” & when Nicky said it, it was so sweet to see how Earl just loved it. He loved to have Nicky come & see him when I brought him to the office. Earl loved to play with him! You could tell Earl was just so proud of Nicholas. Earl understood the “wonderfulness” of how my family is created through International Adoption. He always wanted to travel to Russia with me for my 2nd adoption/child. That would have been a wonderful trip with “Traveling Earl”. Of course, we would have walked all over Moscow!!! When I finally do travel for my 2nd child, I will take Earl with me in spirit.

I love you, Papa Earl! Rest In Peace . . .

Hi Nancy,

Your Papa Earl reminds me so much of my mentor, my friend, Dr. "CJ" Vlach. He passed away about 5 years ago and I miss him still. I learned so much from him that I still apply to my work and to my life. We have been truly blessed to have known these great men. They live on through all those that they have touched.

May you have comfort and peace,

Lori

So sorry to hear about Papa Earl. He sounded like a wonderful man, friend, and father figure. Loved the photo as it was nice to put a face with the nice comments posted on him.

I also enjoyed reading your tag comments. It is always nice to get a little more information on our adoption friends and see how many similarities we all have.
