My Baby . . . Kindergarten Day!

I woke up very early this morning (5:00 a.m.) to the sweet whisper of my 5-year-old in my ear.

"Mama, is it Kindergarten Day?"
"Yes, sweetheart . . . but let's snuggle for a few more minutes!"

My sweet, baby Tyoma . . .
Kindergarten! Where has the time gone?

I wanted to make Kindergarten Day a special day for my little guy! Pictures were taken of a new outfit, back pack, but most of all the new SHOES (light-up police car sketchers). WOW!

The cutest thing my Nicky did was to take my hand, lead me out to the garage, turn off the lights & dance around as his shoes flashed & lit up.

He was just so proud of his shoes!

Quite the handsome Kindergarten-er!

As he walked so big into the school, I remembered the 1st day of daycare (12/22/04). It seems just like yesterday . . . Sippy cup in hand . . . Ready to go!

That very 1st day, as I carried my baby boy into daycare, I choked back tears that only a WOHM (working outside home mama) can understand as she leaves her child for the 1st time when returning to work. It was an ache that I still feel today. But, I am so very thankful for his wonderful daycare/school. It has made the ache of separation bearable. I remember that very 1st day, mama & baby son found all the daycare firsts . . . 1st cubby, 1st assigned place at the table with his name, 1st naptime mat.

Today, we did the same . . . for Kindergarten . . . finding his cubby, finding his assigned place at the table with his name & finding his naptime mat. Of course his school night-night (naptime blanket) & Frogger (naptime buddy-stuffed frog) had to be packed just so, in his new Lightening McQueen (Cars movie) back pack. Those 2 naptime comforts have accompanied him to daycare for the past 3.5 years. So, of course, they have to share Kindergarten too.

I went home for a couple of hours (before going to work) to have a leisurely cup of coffee. My thoughts went back over the last 4 years with my precious little guy, my son. What a wonderful little boy he is. I'm just such a proud mama! I do have to say, the tears did come as I sat with my cup of coffee. I know he will grow up into a fine man one day. But, I'm just not ready for that yet!

I sat, stirring my coffee, tearfully thanking God for the precious gift of my son. What an awesome moment to have! As usual, the busy-ness of the day took over. Mama & son finished the day in their respectful places, work & school.

At the end of the day, when I picked my Nicky up, he told me he had an "awesome" Kindergarten Day. He also told me, with a big important nod of his head, "Mama, I'm beginning to read. I have to learn to count to 150. It is SO hard! But, I'm a smart boy!" I smiled, loving the confidence in my "big" boy!

This will be our final year of "firsts" at our wonderful little school, just down the street from Mama's work. Next year will bring another chapter of exciting "first day of school" moments with a new school. It has truly been quite the milestone day!

And, just when you think that time is moving much too fast . . . There is that sweet moment that brings a smile to your heart & makes time slow down, just a bit. Thank goodness, some small comforts stay the same, for just a bit longer!

Time may be marching along, but . . .

Sippy cup is STILL in hand . . . And, ahhhh, STILL my baby!

I know I'm wayyyy late commenting, but wanted to say what a great looking little guy you have there! Shoes are key on that first day of school and I think he has some awesome ones! :-) They grow up WAY too fast!
